Army Cadet Cited For Award After Car Accident
A 14 yr old girl army cadet was on her way back from a first aid competition in Leicestershire when she witnessed a 3-vehicle accident on the A47.
Her friends controlled traffic whilst she attended to an injured woman passenger in one of the cars. She helped the woman to avoid further injury and discomfort by supporting her head and reassuring the victim until the ambulance service arrived.
She has been nominated for a medal from St John's Ambulance as First Aider of the Year and has already been given a certificate of commendation for her services at the accident scene. She will learn in July whether she has won the full award.
Car accidents can be witnessed by anyone. Would you know what to do if there are casulaties? Maybe the accident happens miles from the nearest paramedic - what would you do? Who would you attend to first? Would your lack of knowledge lead to more serious injuries for the victims, or worse? To enquire about training, see our First Aid Training section.
