If during your ‘Primary Survey’ you observe a foreign object in the casualties mouth. Or you can not give effective rescue breaths
- If possible use the tweezers from the first aid kit, and carefully lever the object out, then extend the airway in the appropriate manner i.e.:- (two fingers under chin and two or three fingers on forehead.
- If the object is too far down for you to eject, do not attempt to retrieve the object by putting your finger into the mouth, this could push the object further down the throat, or give you a “painful” injury.
- With the casualty lying on their back, Commence chest compressions. Once you have completed 15 compressions, continue trying to give 2 effective rescue breaths. As soon as you achieve effective rescue breaths, check for signs of life, and then act accordingly!
