Emergency CPR
Save a Child or a Friend with CPR
Cardiac arrest is often associated with heart disease and people who are unfit, overweight, unhealthy or heavy smokers. Although this statement is primarily correct, there are exceptions to the rule. You may have read about the Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba who collapsed on the pitch during a FA Cup match on Saturday 17th March suffering a cardiac arrest.
During the frantic efforts to save his life, paramedics worked for 48 minutes on the pitch and en route to London’s Chest Hospital providing CPR. Fabrice Muamba effectively died for 78 minutes and had he not received life-saving CPR after his cardiac arrest during the match, he would not be here today.
A freak of nature you may think for a healthy fit athlete to suffer heart trauma in this way but every week 12 apparently fit young people under the age of 35 in the UK die from undiagnosed heart conditions and show no prior symptoms.
How many of us have the skills to help save someone if they collapsed in front of us? A large majority of adults and children say they would be incapable to help if someone needed resuscitating, even though providing simple CPR could double someone’s chance of survival.
ASTS provide basic first aid and CPR courses that are based around the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart scheme. Knowing what to do when someone has a cardiac arrest is important. If you can administer CPR you can buy the time needed until professional help arrives and save the life of your child, love one or a relative stranger.
Learning Emergency Life Support and CPR is something everyone can benefit from; hopefully we will not need to use CPR but having the knowledge can be the difference between life and death.
Hands-only CPR is a simple procedure that adults and children can learn. ASTS provide practical hands-on learning leaving you with the confidence to use your First Aid skills and CPR if the need arises. First Aid Training should be an essential skill that everyone can perform to save a life. ASTS can provide you with basic First Aid and CPR training that will give you the knowledge to use it should the need arise.
Registered with the HSE and Local Authorities, ASTS are a leading First Aid Training Service for individuals and companies and provide a range of First Aid Training, CPR and Advanced Training Courses at affordable prices.
