8 Yr Old Saves Mother After First Aid Lessons At Brownies
A Penicuik girl aged 8 yrs saved her mother after having had first aid lessons at the Brownies. Young Sophie Burt found her mother collapsed face down and having vomited. She tried to revive her then went to get help from a neighbour.
Whilst the neighbour gave assistance, she telephoned her father who came home to take the woman to hospital. She has a rare condition and had suffered a renal crisis as a result of her collapse. Had it not been for her daughter's calm response and quick thinking, the situation could have been much worse.
Mrs Burt had to spend 5 weeks in hospital but remembers little of her collapse. She only remembers feeling unwell and then going into the bathroom where she fell.
For her good work on the day, Sophie has been given the highest Brownie honour: the Commendation of the Scottish Chief Commissioner.
