The Heart
About the size of a persons clenched fist. Found between the two lungs inside the chest cavity. Consists of two Pumps Fused together, each having an ATRIUM and a VENTRICLE.
The two pumps contract simultaneously according to a HEART cycle. The RIGHT side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs for oxygenation. The LEFT side pumps oxygenated blood to the body, which deoxygenates it.
The blood passes twice through the heart before going to the body and the resulting high blood pressure ensures: -
(a) speedy supplies to the tissues;
(b) squeezing out tissue fluid at the capillaries.
