HYPOTHERMIA
This develops when the body temperature drops from its normal 37°C to below 35°C.

RECOGNITION

Shivering, cold,dry and pale skin

Apathy, disorientation, or
irrational behaviour

Lethargy or impaired consciousness

Shallow and slow breathing

Weak and slow pulse

TREATMENT

Prevent casualty from losing
more body heat

Rewarm the casualty slowly

Obtain medical help

Cautions: Do not use localised heating (i.e. hot water bottles). Do not give casualty Alcohol (this will worsen condition). Do not immerse elderly casualty in hot bath (can cause blood to divert from heart & Brain).
