COURSE CERTIFICATION

Advanced Safety Training Services Complies with the First aid at work: The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, as a Centre for the provision of First aid at work training

A Certificate is issued on successful completion of the course, and is valid for three years.

It is required for anyone wishing to work in the role of “First aider”

COURSE DESCRIPTION

These courses are delivered by specialist First aid lecturers who are accustomed to working with a wide range of trainee abilities. All lecturers who deliver these courses have to undergo training in the delivery of this course and hold a nationally recognised trainer qualification. The aim of the courses is to qualify students as competent “first aiders”

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

This course is for anyone requiring a first aid qualification. Please be aware that the practical part of the course does require some floor work. Therefore “Practical clothing and comfortable shoes “should be worn.

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to become first aiders in the workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.

To complete this qualification learners should expect to undertake 22 hours of learning, typically over three days, with a minimum contact time of 18 hours.

The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness.

  • The qualification also covers the following:
  • First aid skills in CPR
  • Use of an AED (Automated external defibrillator)
  • Assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis
  • Administering first aid to a choking casualty
  • Putting a casualty into the recovery position
  • Dealing with shocks, bleeds, burns and minor injuries
